From the Gran Caffè Mazzini, the rambling tram underneath the gargantuan-oak lined Milizie, the glinting metal lineup of motorini outside the Tribunale, chic boutiques on sidestreets, the promenade on via Cola di Rienzo, the sleekly attired Rai executives, the actresses who emerge after 16,00, the flower market behind Trionfale, and of course Rome's unmistakable architectural centerpiece, Saint Peter's -- Prati is my favorite neighborhood in Rome. Dynamic and urbane, it lacks the ancient ruins and cobblestones of other parts. You are less likely to see laundry from a high palazzo window, as in Trastevere. Instead the buildings are draped with wires for internet and TV, cascading like vines down the sides.
